6 Most Common Questions About Our Outdoor Living Spaces
Q: How many “rooms” do you actually have out there?!?!
A: The space has grown and evolved so much over time, but as of right now, we have the bar/kitchen, the upper lounge, the lower lounge, the dining deck, and the living room. In total — five “rooms”! We are also currently planning to add a fire pit lounge, but that will be more in the yard than actually attached to the house.
Q: Who designed and built your outdoor spaces?
A: We did it ourselves! I had a vision of what I wanted each space to look like and we drafted it up on paper and in a few months it was a reality! I knew exactly how I wanted to use each space so I try to be very intentional with a design! I’m really lucky that Kerry lives up to his title as “The Handy Hubs,” and when there were projects that were outside of his ability, we knew the right folks to help. There truly isn’t one detail that I would change!
Q: How did you get the chandeliers in the trees?
A: The chandeliers hanging from the trees are one of our number one asked questions! We have an electrical source out in the backyard so we simply run a dark extension cord up the back of the tree where no one can see it and across the branch to each individual chandelier! They are all set on timers so they come on and off at the same time every single night! It definitely creates an extra layer of ambiance! Chandeliers, however, are not intended to be outdoors, but they have done so well over the years! Each of them are vintage light fixtures that I found over time! I have found a new solar option that I might replace one of them with to see how it does and how much light it provides—stay tuned for that!
Q: What is the inspiration behind “The Whiskey Belle”?
A: The celebrate the completion of the bar area, we had some friends over and had everybody write down all of their ideas for naming the bar. We went through all the responses, and we picked the one that felt the best! It’s actually perfect! Kerry likes a good whiskey, and I love anything that sounds southern! The custom sign hanging above the TV was a gift from my mom.
Q: How do you keep it so clean?
A: To be fair, I clean it often, but I cheat a little! I walk around with a handheld leaf blower to knock off a lot of the dust and any tree debris that may have fallen! All of our furniture and pillows are rated for the outdoors so they tend to dry out pretty quickly! Anything else that is not rated for the outdoors is strictly under cover in the Whiskey Belle, the dining deck, or the outdoor living room so they don’t see as much of the elements!
Q: How do you ever leave the space?
A: Honestly, when the weather is nice, we try not to leave it very much! We feel like we have created our very own oasis in our backyard, and we have the most fun when we are here! We invite friends over to enjoy it with us, and they makes it that much better! We have everything we need right here! It was the best place to quarantine in 2020!
